Friends Wedding Post # Two

Holy cow, this wedding! Melissa is my best friend and I just want her to be happy. I kept my mouth shut all weekend about how she was so relaxed and didn't care what happened. I wish I could be like that about my own wedding.

The ceremony and reception took place in a re-developed VFW hall (Veterans of Foreign Wars). And it was Baptist. Everything was low budget. The ceremony was supposed to start at noon, but we had to do hair and makeup. And the Pastor wanted Melissa to listen to the 10am service because it was about marriage.

Three bridesmaids, four groomsmen. One groomsman was added three days before the wedding so there was no time to find another dress for a fourth bridesmaid. The matron of honor walked down the isle by herself. The groom wore a tie & vest, while the best man was in a pinstripe suit, one groomsmen wore a vest and the other two wore white shirts with ties.

The lighting was awful! Not enough recessed lights to justify turning off the fluorescents. So the groom was in shadows.

The pastor forgot to do the exchanging of the rings and had to be reminded by the matron of honor to do so. He also called the ring a symbol of being someone's property. I'm sick of pastors talking about that at weddings. Especially now. I am my own person. I'm marrying this person to share my life with, not grovel at their feet.

I had nothing to complain about at the reception. It had a beach theme to it with mason jars filled with sand topped with a tea candle wrapped with blue tulle. The food was good, too. Made by the grooms mother.

After they had cut the cake, Brenton & I sat on the church side of the reception hall eating a slice of cake and talking about what we wanted at our wedding. It was a very nice moment.

After the reception, everyone was invited back to Melissa and Dustins house. Brenton & I went home and had a two hour nap! After we finally got up we had some Potbelly's and headed over. Played some beer pong, drank some beer, got a headache from all the cigarette smoke in the basement so went and sat on the couch upstairs. Before we knew it, Brenton and I were the only ones left at the house! We got to see Dustin shove the leftover cake in Melissas face and watch horrified as Dustin dumped three buckets of water on Melissa (twice) and one of their roommates. Brenton said if that had happened at our house, he would have been done. "Everybody leave."

I had a really great and fun time watching Melissa tie the knot. It made me excited that one day I would be marrying my one and only. I can't wait for that day. I hope Melissa and Dustin stay as happy as they were Sunday.

Friends Wedding

I am so excited for this weekend!! My friend Melissa is marrying her best friend, Dustin! Not only that, but I get the honor of being one of her bridesmaids! I'm sure I will be nervous Sunday, but right now after buying their wedding present, I'm excited! I love weddings! I'm such a romantic. I love watching people be "in love."
I love being in love, too. In love with my parents, my sister and cousins. My fantastic boyfriend, who everytime I look at him I fall more in love. He's not exactly the romantic I was hoping for as a life partner, but our romance is more than I ever dreamed. To me, it's perfect.
This is probably why I get so emotional at weddings. I know what that feeling is now and I can relate to the bride and groom so much more. I know that feeling of giving yourself to another human being, of putting someone else before you. Of loving and caring so much it hurts.
I hope Melissa and Dustin have a happy and successful marriage. I hope they have lots of kids. Most importantly, I hope they stay in love.
